Community House King Street

The Community House is a multi-tenancy building designed and built for the Palmerston North City Council. It was a project that was 25 years in the making and we were honorured to be chosen as the main contractor for the project.

Being a publically funded building with a set budget, a lot of time was spent with the project management team around any of the additional costs that were incurred. As well as the main building, Colspec successfully negotiated the fit out of the entire building, which required tireless management on site as we ran two separate contracts, with multiple clients under one project.

The building comprises of a 700m2 ground floor and a 600m2 second floor and caters for a vast range of community groups. Constructed from an in situ concrete ground floor, precast columns that hold up the interspan concrete first floor, and structural steel roof structure. The building has decorative precast panels that also act as a firewall on the boundary of the site. The lift well also contains precast concrete stairs and full height block work, left unfinished (as with the interspan flooring) so that you can see the structural elements of the building.

Colspec was delighted to be involved in such an important community project and enjoyed working on what was a challenging but rewarding build.
