Makino Pool Redevelopment Feilding

The Makino Aquatic Centre was an exciting community project, involving a complete refurbishment and extension across all areas of the 2750m2 structure.

The existing structure was completely stripped to retain only the glulam beams and the plant room.  An extension of the building to house a new reception and changing rooms, the installation of a third pool for the ‘learn to swim’ facility, a new wet deck play area, and a plant room was the scope of work. The roof and exterior were completely re-clad and new specialist floor coatings were applied to the complete existing pool skirt.

This project included the management of many specialist trades including filtration and pumping, pool installation, specialist floor coatings, extensive HVAC, Kingspan, and the installation of a specialist vapour barrier.

This project was delivered to the community on time, despite a delay at the beginning of the project. Colspec identified during the construction of the facility the need for a replacement mechanical duct to the main pool hall. Colspec approached its contractors working on the project and provided fundraising to heavily discount the price of replacing the duct with a new fabric duct.  This opportunity was accepted by the council and resulted in a positive outcome for the community project.
